Lexus NX 450h+ in SA: Everything you need to know

Earlier this year, Lexus introduced to its South African line-up the RX 450h+, the first Lexus plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) on local shores. Now, to plug the gap in Lexus SA’s premium-midsize crossover/SUV portfolio, of which we’ve driven the NX 350h, the luxury arm of Toyota has launched the the NX 450h+ in SA. Here’s what you can expect, including pricing and spec, from the second Lexus PHEV to arrive in Mzansi.

Lexus NX 450h+ in SA: Specifications

Locally, the NX 450h+ is available in only range-topping, F Sport guise, a trim grade adding several sporty-looking exterior fit and finishes to the already striking crossover/SUV. The latter includes a purposefully sporty version of the Japanese automaker’s spindle grille and a set of gloss-black alloy wheels, each measuring 20 inches in diameter.

Stepping inside, the sporty feeling is enhanced, thanks to the fitment of sports pews (electrically adjustable with memory functionality) for the driver and front passenger, and aluminium-finished pedals. The cabin further features an Apple CarPlay/Android Auto- and sat-nav-enabled, 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system; digital instruments, sited fore the electrically adjustable and heated steering wheel; wireless smartphone charging; and a panoramic sunroof.

Combining a 136 kW 2.5-litre four-pot and a 134 kW electric motor, the NX 450h+’s PHEV powertrain churns out 227 kW, which, according to the brand, allows the flagship NX to complete the 0-100 km/h sprint in 6.3 seconds. In addition, as it can travel on electric power alone (Lexus claims “around” 66.5 km), the average fuel consumption figure is an impressive 1.3 L/100 km.

As standard, each variant in the local NX line-up ships with a maintenance plan and a warranty spanning seven years or 105 000 km, with an eight-year/195 000 km hybrid battery warranty including with the petrol-electric models.
