Indeed, Lexus has whipped the wraps off a performance-focused version of the new-generation LBX at this year’s instalment of the Tokyo Auto Salon. Meet the Lexus LBX Morizo RR Concept.

Billed as a heart-thumping concept, the LBX Morizo RR Concept was designed to showcase that Lexus is serious about developing exciting cars for its customers. So, what can you expect from this reinterpretation of Lexus’ box-fresh compact crossover?

Well, for starters, the firm says it is focused on driver engagements and a rewarding driving experience. Indeed, the automaker claims its hot crossover adds “exhilaration” to the driving signature Lexus has become known for.

However, Lexus mentions that the “high-quality” driving experience synonymous with its products haven’t been sacrificed at the altar of performance. Although more focused on the latter, the LBX Morizo RR Concept retains it.

So, there was mention of the Toyota GR Yaris (which we sampled on the local launch back in 2021), you ask? Indeed. The reason for this is that the Lexus LBX Morizo RR Concept employs the same engine as the compact hot hatch. That’s a 1.6-litre, turbocharged, three-cylinder petrol unit.

But wait, there’s more — Not only is this Lexus concept equipped with the GR Yaris’ powertrain, it boasts the same power and torque output of the refreshed GR Yaris. As a reminder, that’s 224 kW and 400 Nm of torque, which, in this concept model, is available from 6 500 r/min and 3 250 r/min, respectively. What’s more, it’s also all-wheel drive, with an eight-speed Direct Shift automatic transmission sending power to all four corners.
