Volvo Car South Africa has announced the starting price for its new all-electric EX30 SUV, which will be available in early 2024. The EX30 will start at R775,900, making it one of the most affordable full-size electric vehicles (EVs) in South Africa. It is based on Volvo’s new Sustainable Electric Architecture (SEA) platform, which is designed specifically for electric vehicles. The SEA platform allows for a range of up to 480 km on a single charge, and the EX30 will be available with either a single or dual motor powertrain.

The EX30 will also come standard with a host of safety features, including Volvo’s City Safety suite of driver assistance technologies. City Safety includes features such as automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, and lane-keeping assist. In addition to its safety features, the EX30 will also offer a range of luxury amenities, including a panoramic sunroof, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 12.5-inch infotainment touchscreen.

I only just drove the significantly dearer C40 Recharge at just under R1.3mil. But, the introduction of the EX30 is a significant step for Volvo, as it marks the company’s entry into the affordable EV market. Volvo has ambitious plans for its EV lineup, and the EX30 is just the first of many new electric vehicles that the company plans to introduce in the coming years.
