Because it’s almost certainly not coming to South Africa. We know, we see it too – the finally unveiled, all-new Ford Bronco. It comes in two and four door body styles ala its original ‘605 and ‘705 predecessors.
What is it?
It’s a 4×4 that wants a word with the Jeep Wrangler and new Land Rover Defender at once. Looking like a futuristic Tonka toy, the Bronco comes powered by your choice of a 200kW brandishing 2.3-litre turbo petrol (inline 4-cyl) or a 230kW wielding 2.7-litre twin-turbo V6. Good stuff.
“Bronco Sport has the toughness and smarts to help turn off-road novices into 4×4 pros,” said Hau Thai-Tang, Ford chief product development and purchasing officer. “Bronco Sport embraces the needs of outdoor enthusiasts – every inch of it was designed and engineered with weekend adventurers in mind.” Indeed, Ford will endow the Bronco with its smartest smarts and wiliest of techno wiles. It will also have a 7 speed manual or 10 speed automatic transmission depending on which model you opt for.
Five trim levels will be made available including a base model, Big Bend, Outer Banks, Badlands and First Edition. Why do these do these sound like cancelled Netflix shows? You’ll also encounter a veritable raft of technology and safety features, not to mention leading edge 4×4 hardware and software. Just not in Mzansi. We hope that changes.
