With the capability of “transforming” from an SUV to a bakkie, the Chery Tiggo V has made its global debut at Auto China 2026 in Beijing. We detail the South African-bound model…
“Marking a significant step forward in flexible, multi-purpose mobility”, the Chery Tiggo V was designed to redefine family mobility. Officially unveiled at this year’s Auto China, which took place from 24 April to 3 May in Beijing, the “highly adaptable” new Chery product is capable of “transforming” from a seven-seater SUV to a bakkie depending on its owner’s needs.
According to Verene Peterson, National Marketing and Communications Manager of Chery South Africa, evolving mobility demands are driving the need for more adaptable vehicles. Said Peterson, “Across South Africa and globally, families are using a single vehicle to meet a wide range of needs, from daily commuting and school transport to long-distance travel, outdoor activities and even business use. Traditional SUVs often fall short in addressing this level of versatility.”
And the Tiggo V is the Wuhu-based brand’s answer to the demand for the evolving mobility needs of consumers…

“The Tiggo V has been developed to address this gap. Built on the principle of ‘one vehicle for all scenarios’, it delivers a flexible, multipurpose design that adapts effortlessly to different use cases, whether for everyday driving, family road trips, cargo transport or recreational activities,” said Peterson.
Peterson added, “The Tiggo V reflects a deep understanding of how South African customers use their vehicles. It is not just about getting from A to B; it is about having a vehicle that supports every part of your lifestyle. Whether for work, leisure or family commitments, the Tiggo V is designed to provide flexibility, value and peace of mind.”
Chery South Africa has announced the Tiggo V has been confirmed for Mzansi. However, locally, the carmaker’s “transformable” SUV/bakkie could be known by a different name. The latter and local specifications, along with the official launch timing, will be revealed in the “coming months”, the firm says.
