Since the introduction of the BMW X6, the first coupé-styled SUV, many automakers have followed suit, with several applying this design line to the roofs of their SUVs and, over the years, with the increased popularity of compact SUVs, crossovers.
To name but a few, there are the Audi Q8, of which we’ve sampled the pinnacle RS model, the Porsche Cayenne Coupé, and, on the crossover-side of the spectrum, the Volkswagen Taigo. There are many more, which, soon, will include the model featured here — the Citroën Basalt Vision.
Following in the footsteps of the new Citroën C3, the Basalt Vision marks a new stage in the French firm’s international offensive. Based on the company’s ‘Smart Car’ platform, the Basalt Vision has been specifically configured to meet the needs of customers in markets such as India and South America.
According to the brand, “[The] Basalt Vision is a daring concept for a very compact SUV Coupé that brings together a number of customer expectations.” The automaker maintains that its upcoming, coupé-styled offering expresses a modern and robust persona, which is both powerful and stylish. What’s more, Citroën says it will offer the same balance and space of a five-door sedan.

“We are delighted to unveil the third opus of the programme designed to drive Citroën’s international growth. Our teams are strongly committed to deliver in the coming months this innovative vision of SUV Coupé that exudes bold design, space inside and unique onboard comfort,” said Thierry Koskas, CEO of Citroën.
“Developed and produced locally, we are confident that Basalt Vision will appeal to a large number of customers and strengthen our position in major markets. We can’t wait to tell you more about it in middle of the year.”
But will the Citroën Basalt Vision come to South Africa? Well, that remains to be seen. Currently, this coupé-styled crossover/SUV has been penned for India and South America.
