Suzuki Jimny rendered as bakkie!

The Jimny is one of the most capable off-roaders available. There is no doubt about it. Don’t be fooled by its size, this boxy 4×4 can go anywhere. Still not convinced? Well, just read about our trip to Botswana in the Jimny 5-door, the latest addition to the Japanese firm’s feel-good-4×4 family. “This car remains to be a box of laughs, sturdily built and robust enough for the task at hand — that is, 4×4-ing under the African sun,” we said in our review of the Jimny 5-door.

However, what if you favour bakkies? Well, if you’re looking for a taller ride height and, of course, more packing space, why wouldn’t you?

Although the Jimny 5-door boasts space for a family of four and increased luggage and utility capacity over its three-door sibling, a bakkie just, well, makes it a touch easier to carry around items, be your travel bags, camping equipment, bicycles, rubble (not that you really would in one of the plus-R1 million offerings), or whatever you can put your mind to.

The fact of the matter is, in short, thanks to their load beds and load-carrying capabilities, bakkies are hands down some of the most (if not the most practical) vehicles out there. But what if you adore the smile-inducing 4×4 (why shouldn’t you, it’s a characterful, pukka off-roader) but want to additional packing space?

Well, virtual tuner Theo throttle — the fudger (also known as Theolipas and theottle, if you want to check them out on Instagram) has created a virtual rendering of a Jimny double cab, which, of course, is based on the Jimny 5-door. Colour us interested!

Yup, through the use of some digital wizardry, theottle has created a Jimny bakkie. Why? Well, according to the virtual tuner, “Such a variant would be popular.”

“Now that there’s the five-door Suzuki Jimny, how about a dual-cab Jimny pick-up? I do believe such a variant would be popular. I do think if there’s a Jimny pickup, Suzuki will need to fit it with a bigger and more powerful engine,” the caption below the video showcasing the virtual conversion (of the Jimny 5-door to a double cab) read the caption of the video on their YouTube page, Theottle.

In the virtual rendering, theottle took the Jeep Gladiator as inspiration. Check it out below…

As a reminder, the Jimny 5-door is equipped with Suzuki’s familiar K15B power unit, which, here, churns out 75 kW and 130 Nm of torque. The 1.5-litre, naturally aspirated, four-cylinder petrol can be had with a five-speed manual gearbox or four-speed automatic transmission, both of which featuring a low-range (4L) transfer case, 4WD, and, as standard, rear-wheel drive.
