Porsche 911 GT3 RS on-track performance enhanced with Manthey Kit

There are arguably only a few sports cars that is as at home on a racetrack as the Porsche 911 GT3 — the version donning the revered ‘RS’ (Rennsport) moniker, especially. A masterclass in engineering, the 911 GT3 RS has, since its inception, been the de facto track-day car for many. It is no wonder why — the 911 GT3 RS is, without a slither of doubt, a venerable track weapon.

However, what if you desired even more on-track performance from your 911 GT3 RS? Well, Porsche is now offering the current, 922-generation 911 GT3 RS with a Manthey Kit, which adds significantly improved aero, several suspension modifications and optimised braking components to the standard 911 GT3 RS. Noteworthy, equipped with the Manthey Kit, the 911 GT3 RS offers a whopping 1 000 kg of downforce when the car is travelling at 285 km/h.

Power and torque remains unchanged. As a reminder, the 911 GT3 RS’s 4.0-litre, naturally aspirated flat-six produces 386 kW — available from 8 500 r/min, with a redline of 9 000 r/min — and 465 N.m, on tap from 6 300 r/min.

“Over a period of two years, we worked together with Porsche engineers on the new Manthey Kit for the 911 GT3 RS, and tested it over several thousand kilometres on European racetracks and on the Nürburgring Nordschleife,” said Nicolas Raeder, Managing Director of Manthey Racing GmbH.

Unfortunately, weather conditions have prevented the company from setting an official lap time with the Manthey Kit-equipped 992-generation 911 GT3 RS around the (20.832 km) Northern loop of the gruelling Green Hell. However, the firm promises a “significant” improvement over the lap time — 6 minutes 49.328 seconds — set by the standard car.

Said Raeder, “Our data promises a significant improvement in lap times compared to the standard 911 GT3 RS. So far, weather conditions have prevented us from achieving an official lap time on the Nordschleife. We want to make up for this at the next possible opportunity.”

Considering the Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time (6 minutes 55.737 seconds; 4.19 seconds quicker than the standard 911 GT3) set by the (992.1) 911 GT3 equipped with a Manthey Kit, when the opportunity arrives, a fair bet would, however, be that the 911 GT3 RS with the Manthey Kit will, indeed, best the standard model’s lap time.
