The new VW Transporter has touched down on South African shores. We highlight everything you need to know about the latest iteration.
The box-fresh Volkswagen Transporter has finally launched in our market, with the five-strong initial local model line-up priced from R770 000 (see full pricing below).
Based on the brand-new Ford Tourneo Custom, which launched in South Africa in September 2024, the new Transporter range employs a single engine option, which is available in three states of tune: 81 kW, 110 kW, and 125 kW. Currently, only the 81 kW/310 N.m and 125 kW/390 N.m versions are available in Mzansi. A six-speed manual gearbox and an eight-speed automatic transmission are on offer – the latter the sole transmission option with the most powerful models.
Stepping inside, the new Transporter’s cabin plays host to 12.0-inch digital instrumentation and 13.0-inch touchscreen infotainment, which incorporates Apple CarPlay and Android Auto screen mirroring. According to the Wolfsburg brand, the pews have a particularly ergonomic design.

How much does the new VW Transporter cost in South Africa?
Locally, the new VW Transporter line-up is priced from R770 000 for the Panel Van, with the Kombi people-mover models priced from R1 081 700 to R1 167 400. A Crew Bus variant and a 125 kW derivative equipped with all-wheel drive will join the range at a later stage.
Included with the Panel Van and upcoming Crew Bus packages are a two-year/unlimited km warranty and thee-year/60 000 km service plan. The Kombi variants ship with a three-year/120 000 km warranty and a maintenance plan spanning five years or 60 000 km.
