New VW Tiguan launches in SA — Pricing, spec & more!

Following the local launch of the refreshed T-Cross, the new-generation Volkswagen Tiguan has touched down on South African shores. Here’s everything you need to know about the local model line-up, including pricing and spec for the five-strong model range.

What engine options are available in the new Volkswagen Tiguan?

Locally, the box-fresh Tiguan is available with the choice of three engine options: a 110 kW/250 N.m 1.4-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol powertrain (1.4 TSI); 110 kW/340 N.m 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbodiesel (2.0 TDI); and 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit producing 140 kW and 350 N.m. The 1.4 TSI is exclusively available in front-wheel-drive configuration, while the 2.0 TDI and 2.0 TSI models are equipped with Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. All models are equipped with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

New Volkswagen Tiguan specifications

Standard features include a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, replete with wireless smartphone mirroring, a digital instrument binnacle, three-zone climate control, park distance control, a leather-trimmed multifunction steering wheel, cloth upholstery for the seats, “eco” LED headlamps, and 17-inch “Bari” alloy wheels on the base- and Life-spec derivatives. The latter grade further gains electrically folding exterior mirrors, among many other additional items. R-Line trim upgrades to LED Plus headlamp arrays, replete with auto high-beam functionality; electrically adjustable “ErgoActive” front pews, replete with memory and massage functionality; 30-colour ambient lighting; and 19-inch “Coventry” alloys.

How much does the new Volkswagen Tiguan cost in South Africa?

Comprising five derivatives, Volkswagen’s local Tiguan portfolio is priced from R651 500 for the entry-level 1.4 TSI derivative to R834 800 for the flagship model that exclusively employs the firm’s 2.0 TSI powertrain and is specified in R-Line trim grade. (It is worth noting, however, that the models powered by the 2.0 TDI and 2.0 TSI engines will only go officially on sale from November 2024 and the first quarter of 2024, respectively.)

As standard, each variant ships with Volkswagen’s five-year/90 000 km service plan. A warranty spanning three years or 120 000 km is included in the purchase price.
