Updated Volkswagen Touareg model line-up and specifications in South Africa
Whereas the pre-facelifted local Touareg line-up comprised a trio of models, available in Luxury, Luxury R-Line, and Executive R-Line levels of specification, respectively, the refreshed model range is made up of two derivatives, the Elegance and R-Line. Equipment updates on both models include new IQ. Light HD matrix head- and taillamps, with the latter items featuring “dynamic” brake and turn signals (an illuminated VW emblem can also be found at the rear). The front lamps flank a revised grille. The bumpers have also received cosmetic enhancements. Updated alloy-wheel designs are also present. Interior updates include, among many other items, electrically adjustable seats, which are upholstered in leather, and 30-colour ambient lighting.
What powers the updated Volkswagen Touareg line-up in South Africa?
As before, the South African models employ VW’s familiar 3.0-litre, V6 turbodiesel engine, which churns out 190 kW and 600 N.m of torque, the latter of which is available from 2 250 r/min to 3 250 r/min. Power and torque are sent to the German marque’s 4Motion permanent all-wheel-drive system exclusively via an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. According to VW, the oil-burner sips, on average 7.1 L/100 km.
How much does the updated Volkswagen Touareg cost in South Africa?
Priced from R1 457 900, the opening gambit to the refreshed Touareg line-up, the Elegance, is priced R13 100 more than the outgoing Luxury variant, while the flagship, R-Line model will set you back R1 763 900, R3 800 more than the previous flagship derivative (the Executive R-Line). Included in the pricing are a five-year/100 000 km maintenance plan and a warranty spanning three years or 120 000 km.
