Armoured-vehicle specialists SVI Engineering has announced its latest bespoke armouring package, with the South Africa-based company handing the new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado the bulletproof treatment.
“The previous-generation Land Cruiser Prado was a popular choice among SVI customers, with its robust ladder-frame chassis and reliable powertrain making it an ideal candidate for B6 armour,” said SVI Business Development Director Nicol Louw.
“Considering the immense local interest in the new Prado – not to mention the various advancements over the preceding version – we have no doubt this latest model will likewise become a staple in our range.”
Thanks to the variety of armoured components, SVI Engineering’s B6 package for the J250-generation model offers 360-degree protection against ammunition fired from such assault rifles as AK47s, R1s and R5s. And the B6 package further includes a suspension upgrade as standard.
As a reminder, the new Land Cruiser Prado employs the Japanese automaker’s tried-and-tested 2.8-litre, four-cylinder turbodiesel engine. The oil-burner churns out 150 kW and 500 N.m, sent to all four corners via an eight-speed automatic transmission, replete with a low-range transfer case.

How much does SVI Engineering’s armouring packages for the new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado cost?
Available for both TX- and VX-R-spec Land Cruiser Prado models, the B6 armouring package is priced from R1 136 814, which excludes VAT and the price of the donor Land Cruiser Prado. As a reminder, the stock-standard TX and VX-R derivatives are priced from R1 315 700 and R1 470 600, respectively.
However, SVI Engineering also offers the option of specifying a B4 armouring package, which is priced from R746 419, which also excludes VAT and the price of the donor car, for the local Land Cruiser Prado model range. This package provides protection against handguns of up to .44 Magnum.
In addition, customers have the option of specifying several optional extras. The latter includes roof and floor armour, heavy-duty run-flat rings for the tyres and a PA system.
The build time for both the B4- and B6-equipped Land Cruiser Prado derivatives takes approximately three months.
