Refreshed Renault Kiger arrives in Mzansi

Introduced to Mzansi in 2021, over 28 000 Kiger units have been sold in our market to date, Renault says. Now, in a bid to enhance the appeal of the Kiger package locally, the local arm of the French firm has launched the updated model in South Africa.

According to the automaker, with the mid-cycle refresh the Kiger has now evolved, with its “notable” design enhancements, upgraded features, advanced tech and safety, and revamped exterior and interior design language furthering its appeal.

The Kiger’s “renewed” exterior styling adopts a “striking” front grille, a box-fresh, more sculpted bonnet, and redesigned fore and aft bumpers. The package also includes automatic LED headlamp and taillamp arrays, and fog lamps. The updated Kiger is fitted with a set of 16-inch wheels.

Stepping inside, the interior now sports a dual-tone dashboard. In a bid to lend the cabin a more premium feel, the seats are upholstered in synthetic leather. The interior further plays host to such items as an 8.0-inch, touch-enabled infotainment display, replete with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto screen mirroring, and a 3D Arkamys sound system. A multi-view camera, supplemented by rear park distance sensors, is also included in the package. The wipers feature rain-sensing functionality. Renault says the noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) suppression has also been improved.

According to the car manufacturer, the Kiger now offers over 15 standard-fitment safety features. The latter includes an electronic stability programme (ESP), a traction control system, hill-start assist, and a total of six airbags, with Isofix child-seat anchorage points sited on the rear bench. Tyre pressure monitoring is also included.

Available with the choice of four exterior colour options — Blue, White, Silver, and newly-introduced Grey — the updated Kiger arrived in Mzansi in Evolution and Techno trim grades. The fresh-faced derivative is currently available with a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol motor, which churns out 52 kW and 96 N.m of torque. The Evolution-spec model is exclusively available with a five-speed manual cog-swapper, while Techno-spec derivatives can be had with the latter gearbox or automated manual transmission (AMT).
