New Honda CR-V lands in SA & we have pricing

The box-fresh, sixth-generation Honda CR-V has touched down on South African shores, with the local arm of the Japanese automaker announcing pricing for its new-CR-V portfolio. So, what can you expect from the latest CR-V? Well, let’s get into it…

But before hopping in, let’s first take a glance at this generation CR-V’s bodywork. According to Honda, the latter is “rugged” yet “sophisticated”, with the new version having grown in length and width compared to its predecessor. Nose to tail, the recently-arrived CR-V measures 115 mm longer than its forebear, while the width has increased by 10 mm.

The front end of the CR-V is characterised by large, upright grille, sited below the now-extended bonnet, and tapered LED headlamps. As standard, the latter is of the LED variety. ‘Round back, the vertical taillamps also feature this lighting technology.

However, the range-topping, Exclusive derivative gains a mesh grille, replete with gloss-black accents,  fore and aft “sport” bumpers, and 19-inch alloy wheels. The flagship grade also features stainless-steel exhaust housings. A panoramic sunroof is also present on this variant.

The CR-V can be had with the choice of seven colour options, including a new body hue. The latter is Canyon River Blue Metallic. The remaining colour options are Platinum White Pearl, Lunar Silver Metallic, Meteoroid Grey Metallic, Crystal Black Pearl, Coffee Cherry Red Metallic, and Brilliant Sporty Blue Metallic.

Stepping inside, the cabin is equipped with digital instruments, measuring 7.0 inches in the Executive model and 10.2 inches in the Exclusive, and, as a 9.0-inch infotainment system. The latter is included with both trim levels. The latter, touch-enabled set-up incorporates screen-mirroring functionality, such as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Wireless smartphone charging is also present among a host of other items.

Peaking below the bonnet, the new CR-V is equipped with a “newly refined” 1.5-litre engine incorporating forced induction. Coupled with a CVT, the turbocharged four-pot produces 140 kW and 240 Nm of torque, the latter of which is available from 1 700 r/min to 4 500 r/min.

So, how much does the new CR-V cost in SA? Well, for the Executive model you’ll pay R959 900, while the Exclusive will set you back R1 039 900. As standard, a five-year/90 000 km service plan and a five-year/200 000 km warranty are included in the package.
